While Clarice is known for her incredibly colorful art deco patterns, this an earlier style.
A.J. Wilkinson Ltd, , owned by Colley Shorter and his brother who later became Clarice's husband, hired Clarice in 1916 when she was 17 years. Clarice was a very ambitious girl, and very talented, and in a time when women seldom had such opportunities, Clarice became a ceramic designer, and eventually head of her own department.
