Antique JB Owens Utopian S1 Vase Lamp Base, Tot Steele Floral Blossom Decoration

Description

For auction is an antique J.B. Owens 'Utopian' vase or lamp base. It has an elongated form with a rounded shoulder, rolled rim, and flared base. The glossy glaze ranges from dark brown to honey amber and it has a beautiful orange and green flower decoration. The design is by Tot Steele and it is signed TS near the bottom edge on the side opposite of the flowers (in addition to Owens Steele was also a decorator at Roseville and Weller). It is marked with an impressed S1 on the bottom. The base is drilled and it was partially filled. It stands about 10 3/8" tall x 3 7/8" dia. at the base.
It's in pretty good shape, certainly not perfect but not horrible. No chips or cracks. It has general overall fine crazing, several surface scratches, pinpoint dings, and scattered glaze pops. Pic 11 shows some but not all of the scratches. Color is really nice and the surface is very glossy The pictures are an important part of the description, please check them out.
