Description

Scarce vintage travel booklet: TACOMA, WASHINGTON - The City with a Snow-capped Mountain in Its Dooryard - published by the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce in 1912. PLEASE NOTE - though this is pretty hard-to-find, this copy has moisture damage resulting in heavy scarring to the bottom areas of all the pages after being stuck together - please see photos and the description below for full details). Sturdy paper wraps, very nice illustrations to the inside and outside of the covers, many fine color photos inside, plus a center-page ILLUSTRATED BIRD'S EYE VIEW MAP OF TACOMA; photos of (and much historical info on) Ocean Carriers at Tacoma, natural wonders, cityscapes, wheat warehouses, Northern Pacific Railroad car shops, beautiful homes, ships and masted vessels at the waterfront, panorama of a huge sawmill and of the New Gateway to the Orient, stadium, and more. Measures 8.5x11 inches.
Condition is POOR/ACCEPTABLE (3-ring binder holes, pages not stapled, cover has small spots, vertical crease, corner wrinkling, edge wear; back cover similar but has two corner chips instead of a crease; the title page has some of the heavier scarring with a long tear and chips and several scars - similar wear to about half of the pages (some obliteration and scarring of some areas of image and/or text, chipping), and less wear to the map and last half of the pages (still chips and scars but much shallower and less scarring and loss of info/art); still holds up as an example of this uncommon piece, but obviously compromised).
